Prof André Roux is head of the Futures Studies programmes at the University of Stellenbosch Business School. Before being appointed by the USB, he was Director of the Institute for Futures Research (IFR) at the University of Stellenbosch since 1996. In that capacity, he ran various workshops and other strategic intervention sessions with and for leaders and strategists in business and government. Prior to that he was an economist at the insurance company Old Mutual, a lecturer and head of department in the South African National Defence Force and its predecessor, the South African Defence Force, as well as a junior lecturer at Stellenbosch University. Prof Roux's areas of expertise are business economics and labour economics. His research focuses on globalisation and socio-economic development in Africa. He is a member of the management committee of the Bureau for Economic Research and holds a BCom, Hons BCom in Economics, an MCom in Economics and a PhD, all from Stellenbosch University. He lectures on economics and futures thinking at the USB and on various executive education programmes in South Africa and, from time to time, in Australia, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Ghana and Nigeria. He is a guest lecturer on a number of postgraduate programmes at Stellenbosch University and has lectured on the course in economics presented to MBA students at the Vlerick-Leuven-Gent Business School in Belgium since 2009. Prof Roux is responsible for more than 130 popular publications, a book (9th edition), and has published in academic journals. He is very popular as a presenter and won the Best Lecturer Award in Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences in 2016.
