Essential Foresight

Dr Peter Black is a foresight practitioner and veterinary epidemiologist working as a private consultant from his base on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. From 2014 to 2018, he was the Deputy Regional Manager of the Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) based in Bangkok with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The major project he worked on during this period was called the ‘Emerging Pandemic Threats Programme’ which focused on zoonotic influenza viruses and other families of viruses identified as possible pandemic threats (including the coronavirus family). Peter combines strategic foresight, One Health and Ecohealth approaches to address emerging infectious diseases, climate change related issues and food systems (and the choices societies make). He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal for Future Studies.
