Ms Shiela R Castillo is a Futures Learning Advisor at the Center for Engaged Foresight (CEF). With CEF, she facilitated futures workshops for UNICEF Philippines, UN Cambodia, UNHCR, East-West Center Hawaii, and many other academic, public, and private institutions in the Philippines. She co-developed the foresight card game Dreams and Disruptions with the CEF Team, as well as the synthesis tool Intimate Futures. She is one of the co-founders of the Philippine Futures Thinking Society (PhilFutures) and served as Conference Secretary-General of the Asia Pacific Futures Network Virtual Conference 2020. She is a member of the Association of Professional Futurists. Before focusing on futures, Ms Castillo worked as a social development professional and consultant in the Philippines for more than 15 years. She also worked in Cambodia where she was Technical Advisor of Let Us Create Futures, a child-focused non-profit. She also worked as an Organizational Development Specialist for VSO Cambodia, where she advised two provincial NGO networks in the provinces of Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri. She is a vegan climate advocate and has been active in the Climate Reality Project since 2011. She also served as a mentor in Climate Reality Global Trainings held in March 2016, July 2020, and August 2020. On Earth Day 2017, she was awarded the first Luntiang Dahon (Green Leaf) Award for Climate Leadership. She is currently an Association of Professional Futurists Emerging Fellow for 2021, and part of the Inaugural Cohort of Common Purpose’s SkyBlue Environmental Leadership Program. This talk is an initial exploration of the Futures of Justice using the Justice-based Approach as a framework for inquiry.
Emerging Fellowships of the APF are awarded to some of the most promising new futurists in order to give them a platform for cultivating their voice and to illustrate current futures issues. During this session each Fellow will present shortly their area of interest to start an open conversation on each topic and opportunities they are seeking to advance their work.
